His
love for music dates back to his early school days where it was
apparent that he had a natural flair for singing. His desire for
music inspired him to learn an
instrument and by the age of 12 his father had bought him his first
guitar, on which he promptly began teaching himself "the
basics". He soon progressed to a standard which was well
received both at family get togethers and school concerts.
Roy joined his first band the moment he left school, "Function"
were a 70's soul cover band that gigged both the UK and Germany.
After they "de-funked" Roy was invited to team up with
"Patterns in Peru",
a Nottingham based band writing their own material. The nucleus of
that band are now the renowned
"Jazz Juniors".
Having been entertained by Roy's talents over the years at parties
and on holidays, his friends continued to encourage him to take up a
solo career. He tested the waters by taking a memorable trip to the
coast of Florida where he was lucky enough to enjoy some live
exposure at a number of bars in Key west, namely Clint Eastwoods
famous bar "The Hoggs Breath".
Roy's taste in music was varied as he grew up with favouites
including the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkle, James Taylor, Stephen
Bishop, Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman and The Eagles. He enjoys
playing tribute to these artists and many more in his vast
repertoire which he performs today.
Roy's distinctive style and charisma has caught the attention of
musicians and music followers and is widely recognised as a
promising solo performer.
Fellow musicians and friends of Roy's the Sheffield based "Acoustic
Angels" (who are also enjoying success with their
original band " Boy on a Dolphin") encourage Roy to join
them on stage whenever he has a spare evening, or to perform his own
set as way of support to themselves at larger concerts.
Always in popular demand for private functions Roy continually adds
that extra special touch to a whole host of occasions from weddings
to birthdays, with guests talking about his performances for months
to follow (and usually re-booking him for their own parties!).
If you have not yet experienced a night of music with 'Roy
de'wired' and your taste is melodic songs ranging from rythmic
sounds to beautiful ballards, with that popular 'unplugged' feel,
then you should catch up with Roy on his extensive tour of
Nottinghamshire.
